A group of youths from the Sinai city of Al-Arish have blocked the city’s Al-Arish-Rafah road, located in front of the Al-Arish sports stadium, lighting rubber tires on fire and blocking the flow of traffic.

This was in response to a recent kidnapping of a youth from the Al-Matari family resulting from a family dispute.

One of the kidnapped victim’s relatives stated that the dispute was over a plot of land claimed by both the Al-Matari family and a rival clan within the Al-Sawarka tribe. The dispute was thought to have been resolved after both families took the issue to court, but the Al-Mataris found one of their family members had been kidnapped earlier this morning.

The road block occurred while security forces were gathered outside the stadium providing security for matches that were taking place at the same time. The forces requested help from the city’s Civil Protection Forces and fire department to remove the road block.

The fires have since been extinguished and the road has been reopened.
