Zamalek was able to snatch a draw against Wadi Degla in stoppage time with headed goal from Ahmed Gaffar on Tuesday.

The thrilling game, played at Cairo’s Air Defense Stadium, ended 2-2, as Wady Degla scored its two goals in the first half leaving Zamalek with an uphill struggle in the second half.

Zamalek’s final match this season will be against Etihad Al-shorta who is leading group B with 35 points. To secure a spot in the playoffs the Cairo based team needs to win their final match.

Zamalek has not won the Egyptian Premier League since back-to-back championships in 2003 and 2004, with Al-Ahly dominating the league since then.

Also on Tuesday, Talea El-Geish sent Haras Al-Hodood further into the relegation zone through Salah Amin’s goal, and giving the former hope of staying on.

On Monday, Minya, ranked last in Group 2 with 12 points, clinched a surprise 3-2 victory over Ismaily, delivering a blow to their playoff aspirations.

In Group 1, Al-Ahly who is leading with 34 points, plays Gouna Thursday after a 1-1 draw with Ghazl Al-Mahalla last Sunday. The Red Devils will be looking to see out the regular season on top, with closest challengers Smouha and Al-Ittihad Al-Sakandary also in action on Thursday.
