Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb requested that Agriculture Minister Salah Helal and Irrigation Minister Hossam El-Moghazy create an action plan and executive programme to reclaim 92,000 acres in Sudan.
Cabinet spokesperson Hossam El-Kawish added that this project will occur in cooperation with the Sudanese side.
El-Kawish said: “Mehleb also requested that both ministers quickly present a complete study of the methods through which we can utilise the agricultural products. This plan is to be presented within a week. One of the PM’s assistants will be assigned to follow up with the project.”
According to a cabinet press release, Monday, Mehleb held a meeting, in the presence of Helal and El-Moghazy, to follow up on the suggested strategy, aimed at cultivating approximately 92,000 acres in the Sudanese Blue Nile state .
El-Kawish added: “The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation presented the ministry’s vision regarding the executive situation of the agricultural integrated projects between Egypt and Sudan. He also presented the steps taken to revive these projects during this year as well the Egyptian-Sudanese Agricultural Integration Company’s activities in Khartoum.”
Helal reviewed the proposed strategy by the Egyptian-Sudanese Agricultural Integration Company, in the Blue Nile state’s capital Ad-Damazin, on the rainwater, as the land is located in an area with heavy rainfall.
Helal outlined the required steps for the implementation of the strategy, which include determining the necessary capital size from Egypt and Sudan, and the formation of the company’s administrative and management structure. This will consist of the agricultural production, commercial, financial, legal, and engineering sectors.
According to Helal, these steps also include using the help of Sudanese companies to clean up approximately 70,000 acres of acacia trees and processing them for agriculture. This will be in addition to modifying the composition of the cultivated crops, with the expansion of animal and fish production.
Helal outlined the revenue and the economic, social and environmental yield for the implementation of this strategy, with the Sudanese side being consulted on this in the coming period.
