Egypt’s former minister of communications and technology Atef Helmy was named as chairman of Orange Egypt.

Helmy has 30 years of experience in the field of information and communication technology, as he has assumed leading positions at several companies, such as NCR, AT&T, and Oracle in the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States.

He served as minister of communications from 2012 until he was dismissed in March 2015 prior to the Egyptian Economic Development Conference (EEDC) held in Sharm El-Sheikh.

During his work in the Ministry of Communications, he launched the united licence project and carried out long-standing negotiations with the four major telecommunications companies operating in Egypt—Vodafone, Orange (Mobinil), Egypt Telecom (TE Data), and Etisalat—to solve the obstacles with which they were faced.
