18.3% increase in production index of manufacturing, extractive industries in March: CAPMAS

The production index of manufacturing and extractive industries, without crude oil and petroleum products, reached 133.24 in March (primary), an increase of 18.3% compared to112.66 (final) in February, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The total index for the manufacture of mining and quarrying reached 68.56 in March, compared to 107.97 in February. This 36.5% decrease is due to the beginning of the summer season and halting the export process.

The total index for the manufacture of computers, electronics and optical products reached 143.93 in March compared to 164.36 in February, a decrease of 12.4%. According to CAPMAS, this decline is due to the situation of the market and some factories halting their production. The lack of demand has also lead to a significant decrease in production.

The total index for the manufacture of beverages reached 124.74 in March, compared to 92.59 in February, an increase of 34.7% owing to the beginning of the summer season and increased demand.

The total index for manufacture in the apparel industry reached 158.24 in March, compared to 125.11 in February. This 26.5% increase is because the volume of export contracts increased and the summer season began.
