Al-Ahli Bank of Kuwait (ABK) in Egypt has officially appointed Khaled El-Salawy as its chief executive officer.

El-Salawy was the deputy chief executive officer at the Union National Bank (UNB), leading the Corporate Banking Division, Treasury and Investment, SMEs and Financial Institution activities.

He previously worked in Alexandria Bank Intesa SanPaolo Group for eight years as a general manager and head of Corporate Banking.

El-Salawy’s broad range of experience and his relationships in the country as well as his ability to understand business dynamics in Egypt makes him the best person for the position, the ABK chairperson said.

He has an extensive knowledge base and perspective on the banking industry in the region and brings the right combination of knowledge and experience to achieve ABK’s goals in Egypt, the chairperson added.

El-Salawy will replace Constantinos Loizides, who stepped down as CEO to return to Piraeus Bank in Greece.

ABK acquired Piraeus Bank in 2015, and is currently in the process of rebranding Piraeus Bank to Al-Ahli Bank–Egypt, pending final approval.
