Safir Hotel considers 1,000 sqm expansion to meet demand

The company bought a hotel in Hurghada in 2013, with investments of EGP 150m


Safir Hotels company is considering building an expansion on an area of 1,000 sqm at the end of this year, to meet the demand in the coming period.

Sources said that the company is in contact with officials in Giza governorate to obtain the necessary approvals for construction.

The current hotel capacity stands at 200 rooms. The expansion aims to meet the anticipated flow from other Arab countries.

General Manager of Safir Hotel in Cairo, Hussein Shoukry, told Daily News Egypt in previous statements that occupancy at the hotel exceeded 75% in April and registered 80% in May.

Shoukry said that indicators during the first quarter show a growth in Arab tourism compared to last year.

About 1.7 million Arab tourists came to Egypt last year, a growth of 6.7% compared to 2014.

Over the first quarter of this year, 380,000 Arab visitors arrived in Egypt, most of whom were Saudis.

The sources said that Safir Hotel Group has a plan to increase the number of its hotels in Egypt to five hotels in Greater Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab, and Port Said.

Safir Hotels contracted to manage and develop Safir Hotel in Dahab over 10 years at EGP 55m. It will also develop its hotel in Hurghada for EGP 110m. The company is going through the last round of negotiations to acquire the Sonesta Hotel in Port Said.

Safir Hotel in Dahab has 150 rooms. The hotel in Hurghada is of a capacity of 180 rooms. The company’s hotel in Montazah, Alexandria is expected to be completed early next year.

The company bought a hotel in Hurghada in 2013, with investments of EGP 150m. It will invest a further EGP 160m to raise the capacity of its newly acquired hotels.
