Nun caught in exchange of fire between two families

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement Wednesday that the nun who was killed Tuesday on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road was caught in an exchange of fire between two families. The shooting additionally left one man dead and his son injured.

The dead nun, reportedly 54 years old, was a passenger in a private car accompanied by two other nuns, a doctor, and the driver, who were also injured in the shooting.

The nun was shot and died sustaining injures. The police said in the statement that security officials are searching for the perpetrators.

Several local news outlets and social media pages suggested that the incident was a terrorist attack, with some reporting that a police officer was killed in action.

The Ministry of Interior, however, denied that any police personnel were killed in the incident.
