506,200 tourists visited Egypt in October: CAPMAS

The number of tourist arrivals from all countries reached 506,200 in October, compared to 909,400 tourists during the same month in 2015, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

CAPMAS stated in its monthly bulletin this week that most tourists came from Western Europe in October, comprising 36% of tourists from all regions. Germany was the most influential country with 38.8% of tourists from Western Europe.

The Middle East came in second with 25.1%, in which Libya had the largest share of tourists to Egypt at 28.9%.

Eastern Europe came in third at 18.9%. Tourists from Ukraine comprised 51.0% of the visitors from that region.

Tourist arrivals from the rest of the world (the Americas, Africa, the Pacific, south Asia, and other countries) collectively reached only 20%.

The number of tourist arrivals from Arab countries registered 153,600 in October, compared to 192,600 tourists in September. These arrivals recorded an increase of 6.2% compared to October 2015.

The number of departing tourists was 513,300 in October, compared to 817,000 tourists in September. In October 2015, 853,400 tourist departures were recorded.

Tourists spent 3.3m nights in Egypt during October, compared to 3.1m nights in September, an increase of 7.2%. The number of nights recorded in October 2015 was 7.1m.

Western Europe has the largest share in the number of nights spent at 40.2%, with Germany accounting for 47.3% of the total number of nights for tourists from this region.

Tourists from the Middle East accounted for 31.8%, with Saudi Arabia taking the largest share with 29.7%.

The number of tourist nights spent by departing tourists from Arab countries reached 1.2m nights in October compared to 1.6m in September, and down from 1.3m nights in October 2015.

The average period that departing tourists stayed was 6.8 nights in October compared to 8.4 nights during the same month in 2015.
