A Facebook page leaked on Sunday alleged Algebra exams in Cairo, minutes after the exam started, reported local media.

The Facebook page also leaked alleged exam for Arabic and Mechanics for Menoufiya, Daqahleya, and Mansoura governorates, minutes after the exams started.

Minister of Education Tarek Shawky said in a televised interview on a privately owned channel that exam leaks are not the biggest issue facing education in Egypt, describing it as “a drop in the ocean”.

In 2016, exams leaks for the secondary stage stirred controversy, which led the Ministry of Education to postpone a number of exams, while the Ministry of Interior announced that the Secret Publications Sector of the Ministry of Education is responsible for publishing exam papers; however, the leaks have continued despite the ministry’s claims.

The Ministry of Interior also announced arresting two administrators of a Facebook page that leaked exam questions.

Facebook pages such as ChaoMing and Bel ghesh etgamana (through cheating we are united) were formed to modify students’ exam results. They had threatened the Ministry of Education to continue leaking thanaweyya amma (Secondary stage) exams throughout the second round of testing.

The thanaweya amma exam leaks have put the Ministry of Education under increasing pressure, raising more and more questions about Egypt’s education system, which many are calling to change.
