Mobile internet users up by 10% in August

The Internet market attracted 3.5 million new clients in August, compared to the same period last year. According to a report of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, mobile Internet had a significant impact on the growth of Internet users in Egypt.

The report explained that the number of mobile internet users increased by 10.47% at the end of August this year, compared to the same period of 2016. The mobile internet users number has increased from 28.77 million in August 2016 to register 31.78 million by the end of August this year.

Meanwhile, the users of USB modem Internet declined by 2.34% in August compared to last year, falling down from 3.36 million in August 2016 to 3.28 million in August 2017.

The report also showed a growth in the number of ADSL Internet subscribers, marking a 13.3% growth in August 2017, where the number increased from 4.35 million users in August 2016 to 4.92 million in August 2017.

According to the report, the proportion of mobile Internet users of the total Internet users amounted to 31.9%, which is up by 2% compared to August 2016.

A report by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology showed a slight decline in the cost of telecommunication services during the second quarter (Q2) of this year compared to Q1 of the same year.

According to the report, the cost of using the Internet during the Q2 fell to $2.76 to $2.79 for the Q1, while the rate of decline was more than 50% compared to the Q1 of the same period of 2016, the cost of Internet service in Q2 2016 was $5.63.

Moreover, the cost of mobile services decreased from $1.25 in Q1 of this year to $1.23, while it was $2.38 in the comparative period of 2016.

The landline cost fell slightly to $0.89 from $0.90 in Q1 2017 and $1.82 in Q1 2016.
