Slight growth in mobile subscribers amid internet user boom in December

The number of mobile service subscribers increased in December by 0.6%, bringing the total number of mobile service users to about 101.3m versus 100.7m in November 2017.

Meanwhile, the number of internet users in Egypt climbed in December by 6.4m, reaching 41.3m, up from 34.9m in November.

The jump in the number of mobile internet users has led to a huge increase in the number of internet subscribers in Egypt. The number of mobile internet users increased from 26.6m in November to 32.8m in December.

The number of internet users via USB modem devices increased slightly during December to reach 3.3m users compared to 3.2m users in November 2017.

In addition, the number of ADSL users saw a slight growth of 1.7%, as users increased from 5.1m in November 2017 to 5.2m in December.

Greater Cairo accounted for 41% of the total number of internet users, while the Delta region came second with 31% of the total number of users, followed by Upper Egypt with 12%, Alexandria and Matrouh with 10%, and the Suez Canal cities with 6%.

On the other hand, the number of landline users decreased from 6.67m in November 2017 to 6.6m in December 2017, a decline of 1.7%.
