Palestinians injured in Friday protests hospitalised in Cairo

So far, 140 people killed, more than 13,000 injured during Great March of Return demonstrations in Gaza

Eight Palestinians who were injured during Great March of Return demonstrations were transferred on Friday to hospitals in Cairo to receive treatment after being wounded by Israeli forces.

The Palestinian Embassy in Cairo said that they were transferred from Arish Hospital to Cairo.

Mass protests in the Gaza Strip have escalated since 30 March as Palestinians commemorated 70 years since the Nakba.

Egypt opened several of its hospitals to treat wounded Palestinians due to lack of supplies and medical personnel in the Gaza Strip. Hospitals receiving inured Palestinians are mainly in Arish and Ismailia, with the wounded individuals entering through the Rafah border crossing.

According to the United Nations, the decade-long siege on the Gaza Strip has resulted in the deterioration of medical facilities in Gaza.

Israeli sharpshooters have so far killed around 140 Palestinian protesters and the Palestinian Health Ministry says thousands have been injured. The drastic approach taken by the Israeli army has been sharply criticised around the world.

Last week, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, with a sweeping majority, condemning Israel for killing Palestinians in Gaza and rejecting a US attempt to pin the blame on Hamas.

The resolution deplores Israel’s use of “excessive, disproportionate, and indiscriminate force” against Palestinians, particularly in Gaza.
