The head of Al-Wafd Party, Bahaa Abo Shoqa, refered Al-Sayed El-Badawi, former head of the party to investigation, for being involved in committing violations.

In a televised interview, Abo Shoqa explained that it was found that Al-Badawi had signed a contract with a media company which included violations, noting that the decision came after agreement from all party members and was not issued by him only.

The Central Auditing Organization (CAO) report suspended the contract, saying that there exists some irregularities, Abo Shoqa explained.

This came amid internal disputes taking place inside the party, after a high-level election took place inside Egypt’s 40-year old New Wafd Party, as some candidates who lost ballots announced that they filled grievances to the chairperson of the party over the election results, only few days after a high-level election took place.

Abu Shoqa was officially appointed as the head of Al-Wafd Party after winning the party’s internal election in March, in succession of businessperson Al-Badawi, who held the position for two terms, each four years, and is not allowed to run for a third term.

Al-Wafd Party is one of Egypt’s oldest liberal parties and has played a great role in the country’s political history since 1984.
