Egypt’s General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek referred 11 suspects to Criminal Court on Saturday overt charges of attacking the Mar Mina Church in southern Cairo, which left nine Egyptian Copts and a policeman dead.

The incident dates backs to last December, a week before the Coptic Christmas celebrations.

The defendants were accused of founding a ‘takfiri’(Infidel) group; funding terrorist operations; resisting police forces; manufacturing and possessing explosive devices as well as deliberate murder.

During the attack, security forces shot dead one of the assailants in a fire exchange outside the Church and arrested another one. The arrested attacker allegedly carried out a number of terrorist attacks targeting police personnel as well as civilians, the ministry of interior said in a previous statement.

The general prosecution identified the group’s leader as Ibrahim Ismail Mostafa who was held in custody, as well as along with 10 others.

During the past years, several Churches have been exposed to deadly terrorist attacks which left dozens killed and injured.
