The Minister of Finance Mohamed Moeit said that implementation of the national project comprehensive health insurance system will start during the year 2019 in a meeting with Minister of Health Hala Zayed.

The meeting was the first with the board of directors of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance in the presence of a number of representatives of the ministry of finance and the ministry of health.

This comes after President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ordered the government on Friday to start preparations for the first phase of the national project of comprehensive health insurance in the Port Said province which will be the first governorate in the first phase, local media reported.

The system aims to reform the current health system through concerted efforts, especially during the first period of work, which will result in a breakthrough in health services provided to all citizens and the unification of the health system in Egypt, said the minister.

He also added that the sources of funding of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance will be the proceeds from the fees of cigarettes sold in the local market, the proceeds of the fees of tobacco derivatives other than cigarettes, the toll of the traffic fees on highways, and the proceeds of the fees for the extraction or renewal of driving licenses and vehicle licenses.
