Egypt called for the pacification and ending the escalation between India and Pakistan, following the latest updates between the two neighbouring countries after the terror attack in the Indian part of Kashmir.

In a statement on Saturday, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called upon the parties of the crisis to reach a settlement through a dialogue and to avoid further escalation which has negative impacts on security and stability of the two countries, as well as the entire region of South Asia.

Last month, a suicide attack on an Indian paramilitary convoy in the India-administered Kashmir, caused tensions between the two neighbouring nuclear powers. The attack which was claimed by the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group, killed 42 Indian soldiers.

Shortly after the attack, Indian warplanes bombed a village inside Pakistan saying that it targeted a camp belonging to a terror group and killed a number of them. Pakistan denied the casualties claimed by New Delhi, then responded by shooting down two Indian warplanes and capturing an Indian air force pilot.

The escalation, which resulted in the murder of five Pakistani people and four Indians, reached a calm point on Friday when Islamabad released the Indian pilot as a “peace gesture” by Pakistan.

Early on Sunday, the Indian and Pakistani sides announced restoring calm on the monitoring borderline between the two countries during the past 24 hours.
