Value of postal services’ current accounts increases by 47.8% in 2017/18

The value of the current accounts of postal services reached EGP 109.1bn in 2017/18, compared to EGP 73.9bn in 2016/17, an increase of 47.8%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) in its annual bulletin of postal services statistics.

In terms of the savings fund, the CAPMAS stated that the value of the savings fund decreased by 11.9% in 2017/18, reaching EGP 101.2 bn, down from EGP 114.9bn in 2016/17.

Meanwhile, the value of the customer balance reached EGP 200.7bn in 2017/18, compared to EGP 197.5bn in 2016/17, an increase of 1.6%.

Furthermore, concerning the dispensed pension, the CAPMAS stated that the value of dispensed pensions reached EGP 74.0bn in 2017/18, compared to EGP 63.8bn in 2016/17, an increase of 15.9%.

“The value of sold stamps and forms at postal units reached to EGP 200.9m in 2017/18, versus EGP 189.7m in 2016/17, an increase of 5.9%,” the CAPMAS added.

Moreover, the CAPMAS noted that the number of postal service units increased by 0.6%, reaching

4,013 units in 2017/18, compared to 3,991 units in 2016/17.

“The number of electronic payment services throughout Egypt reached 1,720 units in 2017/18, compared to 2,146 units in 2016/17, a decrease of 19.9%, it is an automated system which provides the ability to conduct financial transactions and balance inquiries,” it stated.
