The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) has sent a medical aid shipment to South Sudan, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Saturday.

Egyptian ambassador to South Sudan Ahmed Bahaa El-Din said the shipment comes as part of supporting the health sector in the brotherly country.

This was the second medical aid shipment provided by Egypt to South Sudan. The first shipment was sent in October 2018, he added.

“Sending aid shipments to South Sudan reflects Egypt’s firm belief in the historical bonds and shared destinies of the peoples of both countries,” Bahaa El-Din said.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has met with South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir in January. Al-Sisi said Egypt-South Sudan ties are currently witnessing an unprecedented prosperity in various fields, noting that Egypt was one of the first supporters of the nascent state of South Sudan.

In 2013, just two years after declaring independence, South Sudan was plunged into a bloody civil war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
