The production capacity of the Zohr field has increased to 2.7bn cubic feet per day (scf/day) of natural gas, Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla announced on Wednesday.
El-Molla explained that the current rate was achieved four months ahead of the planned date, after the completion and implementation of the second maritime line with a diameter of 30 inches and a length of 215 km.
According to the statement, there are now 12 wells in production in the field, and the current production rate is eight folds the production in 2017.
Last week Russian Rosneft announced that the natural gas production from Egypt’s mammoth Zohr field amounted to 11.3bn cubic metres (cm) (398.89bn cubic feet) in the first half (H1) of 2019, about 3.6 folds increase compared to the same period last year.
The Russian energy giant is in a consortium with Italy’s Eni, British Petroleum (BP), and UAE’s Mubadala Petroleum for the implementation of the Zohr offshore gas project in the Mediterranean Sea.
Zohr is the Mediterranean’s largest gas field, with estimated gas-in-place volumes of 850bn cm. The field was discovered in 2015. It is being implemented as a concession between Italian Eni (50%), Rosneft (30%), BP (10%), and Mubadala Petroleum (10%).
