Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said has approved EGP 300m to support the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities’ efforts to handle heavy rains in Alexandria governorate.

The financing will be used in raising the efficiency of the governorate’s sewerage network.

El-Said confirmed her ministry’s keenness to achieve rapid steps to raise the efficiency of the sewerage and drainage system in Alexandria before the onset of the next winter season in October 2021.

The minister added that the approved amount comes as part of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s directives to meet urgent needs for sewage projects in the governorate. This forms part of the state’s efforts to deal with the frequent torrential rains in Alexandria.

“The ministry is keen to support the implementation of major national projects and to confront and overcome any challenges or obstacles they face,” she said.

El-Said added that the government prioritises sanitation projects, the need to support these projects, and providing the required finances to implement any urgent projects in this regard.
