Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has issued a decree increasing the retirement age for armed forces personnel to 65.

The decree amends Article 12 of Law No 90 from 1975, covering Retirement, Insurance, and Pensions for the Egyptian Armed Forces.

The first article of the decision stated that the official retirement age will be 65 years for all Armed Forces members, the Official Gazette stated on Saturday.

Last week, Egypt’s House of Representatives, headed by Speaker Hanafi Gebali, approved the amendment of the retirement age law for the Armed Forces.

MP Ashraf Rashad confirmed that raising the retirement age is necessary to allow for the transfer of expertise between military personnel.
