Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Sunday, that 15.73 million women nationwide have been examined as part of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s maternal and foetal health initiative.

The initiative was launched in July 2019, and includes examination and awareness-raising to ensure focus on the public health of women from the age of 18 years onwards. It aims to detect and provide free awareness to nearly 28 million women across the country.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Population, the awareness campaigns cover: reproductive health; family planning; and healthy living.

It also covers a review of other health-related issues, including diabetes, blood pressure, weight and height measurement, body mass index (BMI), and obesity or weight gain level. This is in addition to non-communicable disease risk factors, and breast self-examination methods.

Zayed confirmed the continuation of work on all presidential initiatives under the slogan “100 Million Health”. These would take place with preventive and precautionary measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in place.

The Ministry of Health and Population stressed the provision of examination services for women at health centres and units that provide medical services for the presidential initiative. These services would review and treat chronic diseases, whilst ensuring the early detection of renal impairment.

The initiative aims to facilitate the procedures for citizens by integrating the medical services provided with health initiatives. This would take place in a manner that ensures a public health interest and the best medical service for the beneficiaries.

Zayed pointed to the provision of the latest global treatment protocols used to treat breast cancer within the initiative, in order to treat infected women free of charge. She added that all information on the initiative to support women’s health has been made available on the “Egypt Health” application.
