As part of state efforts to encourage greater tourist movement to the country, Egypt now allows passport holders from 74 countries to obtain a visa to the country electronically.

Egypt is facilitating the procedures for obtaining electronic tourist visas, by adding 28 new nationalities to the 46 nationalities covered by the system.

Ghada Shalaby, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Tourism Affairs, indicated that the modernisation of this system came in conjunction with the first anniversary of Egypt resuming the incoming tourism movement.

The country closed its borders to inbound international flights in March 2020 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but reopened airports to such flights on 1 July 2020.

Shalaby pointed out that this update will contribute to encouraging more tourists of different nationalities to visit Egypt.

She said that the portal for obtaining a tourist visa electronically is supported in eight languages, and also allows for various tourist enquiries to be answered.

The system provides a secure electronic payment feature to pay for the tourist visa, which is $25 for one trip or $60 dollars for multiple trips, with the visa issued in a maximum of seven days.

Shalaby added that these measures are expected to have a positive impact in increasing the incoming tourist movement to Egypt. She noted that tourists can obtain an electronic visa through the following link: https://www.visa2egypt.gov.eg/
