Egypt aims to achieve peace, security in Libya: Al-Sisi

Al-Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed El-Manfi, on the sidelines of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) hosted by Egypt.

Al-Sisi confirmed the need to preserve the territorial integrity of Libya, restore security, and end foreign interference.

The presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady stated that the Egyptian President welcomed Al-Manfi in Cairo, hailing Libya’s recent participation in the Paris Conference, which included stressing the need to hold national elections in December 2021.

He added that this step proves Libya’s commitment to implement a national roadmap despite the multiple internal challenges in this regard.

Al-Sisi re-affirmed Egypt’s full support for the political path to settling the Libyan crisis, stressing the country’s keenness to strengthen close coordination with the Libyan side during the current period.

Al-Manfi expressed his aspiration that Egypt’s current presidency for the COMESA would contribute to advancing the process of development and regional integration, affirming Libya’s appreciation for the vital Egyptian role in restoring peace and stability in Libya.

He asserted his keenness to continue intensive consultations with Egypt in order to conduct the elections in Libya on time to ensure a better future for Libyan citizens.
