Glimpses of Egyptian automotive market in 2021

During 2021, the Egyptian automotive market witnessed the introduction of more than 36 new models in the local market, including sedans, SUVs, hatchbacks, and seven-seater service crossovers.

Last year also witnessed the return of cars that had been launched during previous years, but with a new look, sporting either mid-life updates or starting a completely new generation. 

The models introduced were South Korean, Chinese, American, Italian, and French.

Despite the challenges facing the local market, starting with the continuation of the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic and the succession of its variants, through the instability of supply chains, to the electronic chips’ crisis, companies and brand agents in Egypt aimed to revive the market and boost sales by introducing some new models.

The following report lists the most prominent cars that were launched for the first time in Egypt, and can be identified through the following pages:

Suzuki Swift

Modern Motors introduced the improved version of the Suzuki Swift in March 2021 with a four-cylinder engine, 1,200 cc, 87 hp, and a maximum torque of 107 Nm that is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission.

The first category of the Swift is available for EGP 214,000 and the second category is priced at EGP 230,000.

Suzuki Baleno

Modern Motors also introduced the Suzuki Baleno with one class of equipment in March 2021 with a four-cylinder engine, 1400 cc capacity, 95 hp, and a maximum torque of 139 Nm that is connected to a four-speed automatic transmission.

The Baleno is available in only one category for EGP 264,000.

Chery Tiggo 8

Ghabbour Auto Group (GB), the exclusive agent for Chery in Egypt, introduced the Chery Tiggo 8 with seven seats. The Tiggo 8 is based on a four-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engine, with a power of 154 hp, 210 Nm of torque, and a DCT dual-clutch automatic gearbox with 6-speeds, front-wheel drive, Macpherson front suspension, and a multi‐link independent rear suspension.

The Tiggo8 is available in two trim levels, with prices starting from EGP 374,900 for the standard class, and EGP 409,900 for the fully equipped class.

Chery Tiggo Pro 7

GB also introduced the SUV Tiggo Pro 7 for the first time last September with a 1,500-cc turbo engine that generates 154 horsepower and a maximum torque of 210 Nm between 1,750 and 4,000 rpm. It also has a CVT automatic transmission.

The Tiggo Pro 7 is offered at an official price starting from EGP 365,000, and EGP 395,000 for the second, higher-equipped category.

KIA XCeed

The Egyptian International Company for Trade and Agencies (EIT), the exclusive agent of the Korean brand KIA in Egypt, launched the new KIA X-Ceed for the first time this year, with official prices starting from EGP 374,900 for the first category, and EGP 409,900 for the second and higher-equipped category.

Kia has ensured that the XCeed is powered by a fast-revving, turbocharged engine with a high-powered 1.5-litre T-GDi engine with 160 hp that runs at 5,500 RPM and has 253 Nm of torque at 1,500 RPM, enabling high acceleration and power at small engine revs.

KIA Grand Cerato

The EIT also introduced the iconic KIA Grand Cerato for the first time this year, with prices starting from EGP 329,900 for the first category and EGP 424,900 pounds for the higher-equipped category.

The new Grand Cerato is based on a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 130 horsepower that is linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive.

Toyota Belta

Toyota Egypt released the Belta for the first time last November in the local market.

The new Toyota car is equipped with a 1,500-cc four-cylinder engine, 104 hp, and a maximum torque of 138 Nm. Its engine is connected to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Belta offers two categories of equipment, with official prices starting from EGP 235,000, up to EGP 275,000 for the second, higher-equipped category.

Toyota Yaris

Toyota Egypt also introduced the Yaris hatchback for the first time in March 2021 with a three-cylinder engine, 1,500 cc, 123 hp, and 153 Nm of torque that is connected to a CVT automatic transmission.

The first ‘Comfort’ category is available from Yaris for EGP 345,000 and the second ‘Smart’ category costs EGP 375,000.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL

Stylantis Egypt officially released the new off-road Jeep Wrangler in Egypt last December at an official price of EGP 1.8m.

The new Wrangler Rubicon JL is equipped with a 3.6-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque.

The car is available with a Wrangler Pentastar V6 engine with eTorque mild hybrid technology, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and there is another option for a six-speed manual transmission.

JAC J7

Al-Qasrawy Automotive Group, the official agent for Chinese JAC cars in Egypt, introduced its first J7 sedan to bear the JAC brand in Egypt last September.

The new JAC sedan is equipped with a 1,500-cc four-cylinder turbo engine that generates 150 hp and a maximum torque of 210 Nm at 2,000 to 4,500 rpm that connects to a CVT automatic transmission.

The J7 offers two categories of equipment at an official price starting from EGP 304,900 for the first category and EGP 335,900 for the second category.

JAC S4

Al-Qasrawy also released the all-new S4 SUV with a 1,500-cc turbo engine with 147 horsepower and a maximum torque of 210 Nm that is connected to a CVT automatic transmission, capable of reaching a maximum speed of 170 km/h.

Al-Qasrawy offers the new S4 2021 model in two categories at official prices starting from EGP 297,000, all the way up to EGP 327,000 for the second category.

Citroen C4

In 2021, Citroen Egypt revealed the new generation of its C4 crossover service car, with two categories of equipment, with prices starting from EGP 410,000 for the first category and EGP 460,000 for the second and higher-equipped category.

The C4 is powered by a 1,200-cc three-cylinder turbo engine that generates a total power of 155 hp and a maximum torque of 240 Nm with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai I20

GB introduced the new Hyundai I20 in April 2021 with a four-cylinder engine, 1,400 cc capacity, 99 hp, and 134 Nm torque that is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The I20 is available in four categories, the first at EGP 279,000, the second at EGP 299,000, the third at EGP 309,000, and the fourth at EGP 319,000.

DS3 Crossback

Ezz Al-Arab Automotive Group, the official agent of the DS brand of the French PSA Group, is offering the DS3 Crossback to customers in the Egyptian market for the first time. 

The official prices for the new DS3 start from EGP 475,000 for the first, and EGP 550,000 for the second category.

Opel Corsa

Al-Mansour introduced the Opel Corsa in July 2021 with a three-cylinder engine, 1,200 cc, turbocharged, 130 hp, and 230 Nm of torque that is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Opel Corsa is available in only one category for EGP 340,000.

Cayan Seat Leon

Cayan released the fourth generation of the Seat Leon in Egypt in June 2021 with a TSI engine, 4 cylinders, 1,400 cc capacity, equipped with a turbocharger, 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque, and connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Seat Leon is available in three categories, the first at EGP 395,000, the second at EGP 410,000, and the third at EGP 435,000.

Ford Focus

Ford Auto Jameel, the official agent of the American Ford brand in Egypt, announced its new 2021 Ford Focus last February during an online ceremony. 

It comes with a three-cylinder, 1,500-cc Dragon engine, with 120 horsepower and 151 Nm of torque that is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Focus is available to local market customers at official prices starting from EGP 360,000 for the first category and EGP 470,000 for the higher-equipped category.

Fiat Tipo Facelift

Dynamics Auto, the official agent of the Italian Fiat brand in Egypt, unveiled the Tipo Facelift, which comes with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 110 hp and 152 Nm of maximum torque that is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Tipo Facelift is available to local market customers at official prices starting from EGP 279,900 for the first category, EGP 299,900 for the second, EGP 319,900 for the third, and EGP 349,900 for the fourth category.
