Lebanon’s Maronite Patriarch visits Egyptian churches

Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi visited the Maronite Archbishopric House in Heliopolis on Friday as part of his five-day visit to Cairo.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Lebanese Maronite Centre for Culture and Media in Cairo, Al-Rahi was received upon his arrival by Bishop George Shehan, the Metropolitan of Egypt and Sudan and the Apostolic Visitor to North Africa; Ali Al-Halabi, Lebanon’s Ambassador to Cairo; Pierre Negm, the General Father of the Marian Congregation; Father Nabil Raffoul, the Head of the Maronite mission in Egypt; and Nabil Hab Al-Reeh, the Pastor of Saint Joseph’s Maronite Church in Al-Zahir.

Al-Rahi, who is Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, was also scheduled to meet with Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese, Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, and Arab League Chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Saturday at the papal headquarters of St. Mark’s Cathedral in Abbasiya.

Al-Rahi’s agenda will also include paying visits to some churches and monasteries. The patriarch’s visit to Egypt is set to wrap up by Wednesday evening.
