The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed the Arab League’s support to the new Sudanese transitional government during his meeting with Sudan’s new Foreign Minister, Asmaa Abdullah, on Tuesday in Khartoum.
Aboul Gheit arrived on an official visit to Sudan to meet officials of the new government which was formed last week.
Aboul Gheit congratulated the minister for the new post and on the success of the formation of the transitional government, and her take over as foreign minister.
The two sides discussed a number of issues of common concern, as well as ways of implementing the latest Arab League Council resolution on Sudan.
The Secretary-General is scheduled to meet with the Chairperson of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdul-Fattah Al-Burhan, and the Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdouk.
Aboul Gheit formerly visited Khartoum last June. Aboul Gheit previously tasked a number of high-level delegations from the Arab League to show support toward Sudan during its democratic transformation process. Also, the Arab League was a witness to Sudan’s military and civil leaders who formally signed a power-sharing deal which is intended to bring democratic elections to the country in three years.
