The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) has signed a contract for the civil work of the two plants of West Cairo and Assiut El Waleedya with the alliance of Hassan Allam Construction and Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) for EGP 3.2bn.

Gaber El Desouky, the chairperson of EEHC, said the contract signed for the implementation of the civil works of the West Cairo electricity plant with Hassan Allam Construction–CCC was for EGP 1.514bn.

The contract with Orascom to implement the civil works for Assiut El Waleedya was worth EGP 1.692bn, in addition to 10% reserves to supply the necessary spare parts of any extra work that needs to be finished during implementation. The period of implementing civil works is 35 months, starting from the date of the assignation.

El Desouky said that the civil works of the two projects include the processes of preparing the location, including constructing roads, setting coordinates and underground water and cooling pipes, in addition to boilers and chimneys, and founding electric transformers and controllers, as well as the concrete work to be carried out.

They also include constructing the pumps of water cooling and electricity, in addition to the exits and entries of lighting systems, as well as the rehabilitation of the West Cairo plant.

El Desouky added that the two projects multi-operate, where the operations that can be carried out by the West Cairo electricity plant are 16. The number of operations of El Waleedya electricity plant is 17. The multi-operations system allows a large number of companies to compete and reach the best price.

The operation of the West Cairo plant is planned to begin in December 2019, while El Waleedya is planned to start operating in January 2020.

The two projects are amongst those the sector is working hard to implement within its five-year plan to support the unified electric network and meet all the needs for electricity for all purposes.
