14% increase in volume of goods handled at Damietta Port in November

A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority (DPA) showed an increase in the number of docked vessels at the port by 21% during November 2017 compared to same period in 2016. According to the report, the number increased from 197 during November 2016 to 238 in November 2017.

The number of container vessels increased by a remarkable 27.2% in November, increasing from 81 in November 2016 to 103 in November 2017, as well as vessels of a special nature, which increased by 133% from 2016 to record 7 ships in 2017.

The report showed an increase of 14.7% in the exports of general goods in November compared to the same period of 2016. The volume of exported goods increased from 2.5m tonnes in November 2016 to reach 3.5m tonnes in November 2017.

The report showed a significant decline in exports of general cargo by 18% in November compared to the same period in 2016. The volume of exported goods decreased from 726,100 tonnes in November last year to reach 598,500 tonnes in November 2017, a decrease of 127,600 tonnes, due to the decline in exported fertiliser by 40%

The DPA revealed that the number of containers handled through the port increased by 59.7% in November 2017 compared to November 2016. The number of containers handled at the port increased from 63,400 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in November last year to 101.2 thousand TEUs in November 2017.
