The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has leant further support to the 2021 World Men’s Handball Championship, currently being hosted by Egypt hosts, by gifting souvenirs and promotional materials to the participating teams.

The ministry is using this important event to promote tourism in the country, as a means of boosting Egypt’s long-suffering tourism sector. As part of the move, replica antiquities were also given to the teams.

Ahmed Youssef, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board, said, “The Board presented symbolic souvenirs as gifts bearing the Egyptian logo to the sports teams participating in the tournament, as well as to the technical and administrative bodies accompanying the teams to welcome them to Egypt.”

He added that these gifts were sent to the hotel in which the teams are staying, while ensuring all participants are following the precautionary procedures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Youssef also stressed the ministry’s support for using such events to promote Egyptian tourist and archaeological destinations, and to send a positive image of Egypt abroad. Events such as the championship are important for highlighting Egypt’s ability to organise such major events.

The members of the French handball team visited the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and the Panorama area while adhering to the precautionary measures. The health safety controls have been put in place by the International Handball Federation (IHF) to protect the participating teams and those visiting archaeological sites and museums in Egypt.

Memberd of the Swiss and Japanese handball teams were among the participants who visited the Giza Pyramids earlier this week.
