CAIRO: Egyptian Football Association president Samir Zaher has called an emergency meeting of his board after a terrible start to African Cup of Nations qualifying for the defending champions.

The EFA says on its website that Zaher called the meeting for Thursday "to discuss all matters relating to the team" after Egypt slumped to a 1-0 loss to South Africa on Saturday to stay at the bottom of its qualifying group.

The Pharaohs, who have won the last three African Cups, have a single point from three games and look likely to miss out entirely on the continental championship they have dominated.

The seven-time African champion’s poor run has led to calls for experienced coach Hassan Shehata to be fired.
